How we started
Back in 2017, my wife and I were preparing for the arrival of our little one , hearts full, nerves high, and to-do lists a mile long. One of the things we were most excited about was setting up the nursery. We searched everywhere for the perfect baby bedding, something soft, safe, and thoughtfully designed. But what we found was disappointing. The options in Sri Lanka were rough, poorly stitched, or simply lacked the charm we wanted for our baby.
That’s when a spark lit inside me.
You see, the idea for Rockabye may have been born in that moment of frustration, but its roots went much deeper. I grew up surrounded by fabrics and thread, watching my mother lovingly craft dresses and baby quilts at her sewing machine. The hum of that machine, the careful hands at work, the pride she took in every stitch all of it stayed with me.
So when I couldn’t find the right bedding for our child, I turned to what I had known all my life. I picked up that legacy, blended it with a new vision, and started creating what we couldn’t find in stores, something better, made with love. That’s how Rockabye began.
How we Grew
We started small, really small. Just a simple setup in our garage, some fabric, a sewing machine, and a whole lot of determination. With no fancy equipment or team behind us, we made our very first few bedding sets and shared them on Facebook, hoping someone out there might feel the same way we did.
To our surprise, they did.
Other parents, just like us, were searching for something better and they found it in Rockabye. The orders started coming in, slowly at first, then steadily. What began as a personal solution quickly started to feel like something much bigger.
In 2019, my cousin and partner Muhammad joined me, bringing fresh energy and a shared vision to grow what we had started. By 2021, we had opened our first showroom, turning our little garage dream into a full-fledged baby brand. We didn’t stop at bedding, we added baby dresses, nappies, blankets, and carefully selected imported items like organizers and diaper bags.
Today, Rockabye is trusted by thousands of parents across Sri Lanka. But no matter how far we’ve come, we still hold on to the same values we started with: to create beautifully crafted, baby-safe products that bring real comfort and peace of mind to families, just like they did for ours
